Clinical Background
I have been a therapist for almost 40 years. I have had years of post-masters fellowships in marital/family therapy, psychodynamic and brief therapy models (CBT, Solution Focused) inclusive of EAP. I have worked primarily with men’s mid-life issues, couple’s issues, workplace stress, family life transitions and aging. I work primarily with older to younger adults, teenagers (and their families) and children as young as 3-4 in family therapy.
I tailor my methods and modality to the given client(s). I engage my client(s) in problem definition, assessment, treatment goals and interventions best suited for them. Some are longer term clients and some are briefer term. I am well trained and practiced in both. I am very sensitive to cultural and other human diversity factors. I am a very engaging therapist. I’m not the kind who sits and listens and doesn’t say much. I believe in the theraputic alliance and I extend myself to my clients as needed. I am always available for phone calls between sessions, and for emergency sessions.
I have run mid-life men’s support groups for almost 20 years. I have an on-going group of 12 years in Long Beach and am well-known for this.
Educational and Professional Background
I have a B.A. from U.C. Berkeley and an MSW from Rutgers. I had fellowships at Cedars-Thalians and Family Therapy Institute of Southern California and Psychodynamic Institute of Southern California.
I am very active in the California Society for Clinical Social Work and Employee Assistant Professionals of America. I was a therapist, clinical supervisor, field instructor and clinical director of Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Long Beach and Greater West Orange County for almost 27 years. I was strongly connected to the Graduate School of Social Work at Cal State Long Beach for over twenty years as a field instructor, associate professor and member of the Field Advisory Board.
